The Home Depot is founded on and guided by eight core values, including Giving Back and Doing the Right Thing. Over time, these core values have shaped our Foundation’s commitment to making the communities that we serve stronger and more resilient. The humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross helps us bring these values to life, ensuring that all people affected by disasters across the country receive care, shelter and hope, and that communities across the country are ready and prepared for emergencies.
Our history with the Red Cross runs nearly 20 years deep, anchored by a shared desire to support communities impacted by disasters with both immediate aid and critical resources to aid in recovery.
The Red Cross mission hit especially close to home for The Home Depot in the aftermath of the devastating tornado in Joplin, Missouri in 2011. Our Joplin store location was destroyed, and many of our Home Depot associates experienced heartbreaking losses of property, belongings and more. Nearly 200 of our Atlanta headquarters-based associates traveled to Joplin in the weeks following, volunteering alongside the Red Cross to provide disaster survivors safe shelter, hot meals, comfort and recovery support.
Since that time, the Red Cross has become part of the fabric of our company’s philanthropy, and we’ve been a proud Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) partner at the $1 million level since 2014.
With our presence in communities across the country, we recognize how important it is for the Red Cross to have a strong infrastructure and resources in place before disaster strikes to be able to deliver immediate relief when and where it’s needed most. The ADGP program allows us to power this important work to ensure the organization can stand by people as they recover and help communities become better prepared and more resilient ahead of the next disaster.
Responding to disasters is a team effort and we appreciate that the Red Cross convenes and collaborates closely with community partners to meet the diverse needs of those affected and work toward the common goal of helping people recover.
As large disasters continue to increase in scope and frequency, we know these collective efforts and our support are more important than ever before.
Our Red Cross partnership also allows us to quickly scale up and leverage our many resources when disaster-caused needs are especially great. For example, during times of major disaster, our Home Depot associates often want to give back and we’re able to provide them with donation or even volunteer opportunities. We also contribute additional grant funding or donate in-kind products from our stores, many of whom have established close relationships with their local Red Cross offices.
When disasters strike, Home Depot stores often become command centers for first responders and relief agencies. They’re also among the last to close and the first to re-open as soon as it’s safe for our associates to return to work. But what our associates do extends well beyond our business operations. Helping people is part of The Home Depot culture, and Team Depot, our associate volunteer force, are an important part of our philanthropic partnerships.
Over the years, the Red Cross has provided our associates with so many meaningful ways to give back to the community, whether it be through volunteer opportunities, giving blood or taking courses such as first aid or CPR. In an emergency, every second counts — and our associates have also benefited from the lifesaving tools and information provided by the Red Cross about how to stay safe before, during and after everyday emergencies and large-scale disasters like hurricanes, fires and tornadoes.
While our Foundation focuses on philanthropy efforts here in the U.S., we have many associates with families abroad. Through our partnership with the American Red Cross and the work they do to help vulnerable people and communities around the world alongside the global Red Cross network, we’re able to support those associates with global ties.
It’s important for associates to know we give to trusted organizations and when associates ask what we’re doing in the community, we’re pleased and proud to be able to share our ongoing commitment to the Red Cross.
Everything we do as an organization goes back to our values. Our partnership with the Red Cross helps us live out those values every day. Thank you, Red Cross, for the work you do every day. We appreciate you.
"The Home Depot Foundation is proud to partner with the American Red Cross in its mission to keep communities safe before, during and after disasters. Everything we do as an organization goes back to our values, and our partnership with the Red Cross helps us live out those values every day"

At Truist Foundation, we believe that all people and communities should have an equal opportunity to thrive. We take great pride in ensuring that the communities where our customers and teammates live and work are safe and strong. Our passion for supporting the American Red Cross and its work stems from the help and hope the organization delivers each day to build better lives and communities.
The foundation of our long-standing support of the Red Cross – beginning with BB&T and SunTrust before the formation of Truist in 2019 – is helping individuals and families impacted by disasters big and small. We know that by providing grants to support nonprofit organizations, we can help grow and magnify their impact. Joining the Red Cross’ Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) felt like the next right step and natural extension to deepen our commitment.
As a member of ADGP, we invest in the Red Cross — before disasters strike — to ensure they are ready to respond to emergencies at a moment’s notice. Our advance commitment allows the organization to be on the ground immediately, offering critical support services, comfort and hope to individuals and communities. We feel it’s crucial for us to ensure Red Cross has all the resources they need, including trained volunteers, so they can be there when people need them most, where people need them most. Disasters are traumatic, and Red Cross shows compassion as they meet basic needs and guide families through the recovery process, helping them get back on their feet.
While we support the Red Cross so families and communities can recover and rebuild their lives after devastating disasters, we also know how important it is that people prepare for future emergencies.
This past year, we saw an unprecedented number of natural disasters occur within a short period — 2020’s hurricane season alone set records with 30 named storms and billions of dollars in damages. With North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and many other areas impacted by recent disasters, we have seen first-hand that our collective effort and support are more critical than ever. We join the Red Cross in their commitment to ensure people who live in hurricane or other disaster-prone areas make preparedness plans. In an emergency, every second counts — and the Red Cross provides lifesaving tools and information to help people stay safe before, during and after everyday emergencies and large-scale disasters like hurricanes.
What we do at Truist extends well beyond business operations. Standing for better and giving back to our communities is central to our purpose-driven culture. In addition to our annual support of the Red Cross through ADGP, we felt honored to offer a matching gift challenge in 2020 on #GivingTuesday, a day harnessing charitable donations each holiday season, tapping into the spirit of giving to channel the generosity of the public and help their contributions to the Red Cross go twice as far.
We’re are also incredibly proud of our teammates’ dedication to our communities and their commitment to serve those in need. Over the years, our teammates have hosted blood drives, donated blood, and inspired clients to support Red Cross through charitable donations in-branch. This spring, many also took the “Pledge to Prepare,” committing to make their homes more resilient and helping to keep loved ones safer from home fires by taking two simple steps: testing their smoke alarms and practicing their 2-minute escape plans. Our Red Cross partnership has not only helped our teammates make themselves and their communities safer but also united them in our shared purpose to build better lives and communities.
We’re immensely proud to support the Red Cross’ mission through grants and volunteerism to help ensure the organization can continue its tremendous and meaningful work.

As the philanthropic arm of Anthem, Inc., the Anthem Foundation promotes the organization’s commitment to improving lives and communities. Through strategic partnerships and programs, we are addressing the social determinants that will help create a healthier generation of Americans.
Disasters and emergencies can strike at any moment. So when it comes to disaster relief efforts, we believe that the best approach is a proactive one. That’s why Anthem Foundation is a proud member of the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) at the million-dollar level. Anthem Foundation, along with our fellow ADGP members, helps provide a reliable funding base for disaster relief services. These funds enable the Red Cross to respond immediately to the needs of individuals and families affected by disaster at home and around the world, regardless of cost. Because of our up-front investment, the Red Cross is on the ground and taking action, even before disaster strikes.
Through our ADGP membership, Anthem Foundation is in a unique position to enable immediate response – and that is incredibly important to our company. Anthem associates often express to us how pleased they are that their company invests in the safety and well-being of communities, and feel a sense of pride when they see us so visibly aligned with the work of the Red Cross. They appreciate the opportunity to contribute themselves – both financially, as well as through their time and talents. From organized blood drives at office locations across the country to emergency preparedness trainings and disaster kit builds, our associates help their communities year-round through the Red Cross. It has inspired a deep sense of community and camaraderie, and gives them a reason to feel good knowing they are working for a company that cares about the same things they do.
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the world to reimagine new and safe ways to live, work and serve- including how we respond to disasters. Throughout this unparalleled and troubling time, Anthem Foundation has remained committed to the Red Cross as together our organizations are continuing to help people in need by working closely with public health officials and partners to provide services where and when it’s safe to do so.
The Red Cross is entrenched in every aspect of disaster response – so there’s no better organization for us to partner with – whether it’s supporting a family during the aftermath of a house fire, or the entire nation through a pandemic, what we can accomplish together is truly inspiring.
Through August 1, 2020, the Anthem Foundation will match all donations made, dollar for dollar, through this site until $1 million is reached. Donations will support the urgent needs of the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross — where it is needed most – enabling the organization to continue supporting families and communities affected by life’s emergencies amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
